I have a medium type of facial hair growth, I need to shave every day but if I use a razor with too many blades it causes more harm than good so take that for what it’s worth. I’ve been through a Mach 3, Fusion, Schick Quattro and now the Hydro. First off I feel the Hydro is too light so you need more than necessary pressure to your face and even then I did not a receive and consistent shave. I could see the lines where the hydro strip was going through the shaving cream and thought it was interfering with my shave more than anything. On 5 bladed razors the blades seem to get clogged to quickly probably due to the lack of space between each blade but I like the trim feature yet I would rather have the blade that gets under your nose but they’ve taken that away. Overall the hydro function was nice when it actually shaved my face but ultimately I had to go back to my Quattro after the first shave (had to re-shave) and I gave my Wife this which she says works great on her legs. The Quattro is a 4 bladed razor with the one blade for your nose and I find the abnormal weight of it makes a huge difference. I apply little pressure because of it and the 4 blades shave more hair with less irritation than a 3 blade but don’t clog like a 5 blade which can cause irritation from constant stopping and uneven shaving.

Like virtually every other Schick razor, the Hydro is most definitely inferior to comparable razors from archrival Gillette. The Hydro simply does not provide as smmoth, close or comfortable a shave as the Gillette Fusion and the blades’ quality is rather flimsy. While the Hydro does represent an improvement over the previously available Quattro, it’s nonetheless very much inferior to the Gillette Fusion. Schick razors have always left plenty to be desired in comparison to Gillette’s–and the Hydro is no exception.

I kept seeing the ad about this schick hydro and decided to try it myself. I used to think, along with expensive price, came a great product. I regretted to doubt this concept even for a second. I was so excited to try this product since the website also promised to give you a mail in rebate up to 10.99$ for you to try this product for free and some of the reviews in youtube also said that this product is better than gillette fusion products. I bought it and tried it. It hurts like hell and cut me.

I have been using gillette fusion power all my life (even before the power glide came out) and I had been happy with fusion. I used shaving cream and sometimes it still did a minor cut there and there, but it wasn’t that bad. I used schick hydro and it hurt so much. It’s a minor cut everywhere! I am not happy at all with this product. Fortunately I can get my money back with the rebate, if not, I would be so pissed right now. I would go back to my gillette fusion and would try power glide later.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always used Gillette razors, occasionally Schick would come out with a new razor and I’d give it a try each time I’d end up going back to Gillette for 1 simple reason. The blades on their razors are spaced to close together making them difficult to clean/rinse off. I just purchased the new Schick 5 Blade Hydro hoping they decided to change the blade spacing but much to my surprise the blade spacing has not changed and to make things worse the top of the blade is covered so much its makes it extra hard to rinse it out from the top.

Unfortunately I think I’ll be going back to my Gillette blades until Schick figures out the spacing issue.

I’ve never been so mixed on a product. Usually it’s hit or miss. This one was very interesting.

Before I want to list all the products i’ve worked with and own:

Razors:

-Parker 60R (DE)

-Parker SR1 (Straight)

-Gillete Fusion Power

-Gillete Fusion Proglide power

-Shick Quattro titanium

-Shick Hydro 5 blade

Blades:

-Derby (Straight)

-Shark (Straight)

-Derby (DE)

-Shark (DE)

-Gillete Fusion Power

-Gillete Fusion Proglide power

-Shick Quattro titanium

-Shick Hydro 5 blade

Gels/Creams/Soaps:

-Gillete Fusion Hydra Gel (Ultra Sensitive)

-Gillete Fusion Hydra Gel (Moisturizing)

-Edge Energy (Eclipse)

-King of Shaves Alpha Gel (Sensitive Skin)

-Shick Hydro Sensitive Shave Gel

-Vintage Blades Shaving Cream

-Col. Conk Shave Soap (Almond: Non-glycerine)

-The Body Shop Maca root shave cream

-The Art of shaving Sandalwood shave cream

-Van der Hagen Glycerine soap

-Van der Hagen Deluxe soap

-Williams mug soap

After using all of the products above, my thoughts after using this razor with the shick hydro shave cream is as follows:

Pros:

-Closest shave of them all

-Most comfortable of them all

Cons:

-Blade spacing is too close, causing razor to clog up often

-Blade must be cleaned after nearly every swipe

-Not for heavy beards (AT ALL)

-Horrid design for when using on mustache area (Hydration strip gets in the way and you must “flip” it back)

-First pass never gets all the hair

-Doesn’t come with a holster

Bottom line:

For the price, it’s not bad at all. This is just not the razor you want to get caught in your hand on a speedy morning or a rushed time. It’s alright for a weekend shave or as a travel razor. Not by any means for a daily shaver. The price of the blades is fantastic for a cartridge. Way better than the quattro titanium.

3/5 Stars. It’s good, for the price. Pick one up and give it a shot on your own.
